Calling all Singers!

Want to sing in a chamber choir?
Would you like to develop your vocal skills?
Fancy a change from Handel's Messiah every Christmas?

Then why not consider joining the Huddersfield Singers? All voice parts are welcome. If you have a good voice and some ability to sight-read, come along to a rehearsal or workshop. The Huddersfield Singers offers:

The repertoire is rewarding but challenging. The choir maintains its high standards by working on pieces in detail and presenting only a limited number of annual concerts. Philip Honnor, the conductor, is a highly accomplished musician whose careful coaching ensures a well-blended whole.

Small solo parts are offered to choir members in most concerts, affording a valuable opportunity for singers to develop their performance skills.

About the Choir

The Huddersfield Singers is a chamber choir of around thirty-five voices. First established in 1875 as the Huddersfield Glee & Madrigal Society, the choir has a distinguished history spanning over a century and a quarter.

The change of name was due largely to the Huddersfield Singers' interest in performing a diverse and adventurous repertoire. Today, the choir likes to perform anything from early music to the work of contemporary composers. Although Huddersfield Singers concerts always have a coherent theme, the repertoire spans everything from plainsong to Pärt and madrigals to Maxwell Davies.

The choir is always very keen to attract new members. Prospective singers are invited to attend one or two rehearsals before taking an informal audition, and will be made to feel very welcome. The choir also arranges a number of social events throughout the year. If you are interested in joining, please attend any of the events listed elsewhere on this site, or come along to a regular Monday rehearsal.

Rehearsal venue

The choir meets at 7:30pm on Monday evenings between September and July at:

Huddersfield Methodist Mission (1st floor)
15 Lord Street, Huddersfield HD1 1QA

(Find it on a map...)
